A trophy Jungle carpet (Morelia spilota cheynei) is easily recognized by it's brilliant yellow and solid black bands. However, not all Jungles are this vividly colored. Many, including wild populations, are tan or brown, contrasted by dark brown. Some are may also be ivory (known as "Black & White's"). The pattern is normally banded but can also be partially or completely striped.
Jungle carpets are normally very docile as adults, feed readily (though some may refuse rats), attain a reasonably small adult size, and are easly maintained in captivity. Hatchlings are born with very dull coloration, usually grayish-tan and brown-black which will become more defined with age. Jungle Carpets are somewhat arboreal and will benefit from securely mounted climbing branches in it’s enclosure. We use newspaper and/or DCL (Disposable Cage Liner) as a substrate, provide a hide box, and keep the humidity around 60%.
It is our goal to produce the finest yellow and black specimens possible, with long lasting brilliant color and minimal black tipping/flecking. All of our current adult breeders have been carefully chosen in order to produce the optimal offspring potential.
