The Granite is a mutation of the Irian Jaya carpet (Morelia spilota variegata). It is currently the only known recessive trait found in carpet pythons other than the Albino. At first glance most Granites appear to have no discernable pattern. However, upon closer inspection the smattering of orange, rust, yellow, lavender, white and black speckles, are actually structured in an intricate labyrinth-like matrix. It can be said that no two Granites look exactly alike.
